Q. Do you have a favourite smart thinking book (and why that book)?

Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear.
Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear is such a practical and useful book. I am one of those people who believes in building good habits and relying on them instead of letting motivation play mind games and letting life become a roadblock. As James Clear writes, “Habits are the compound interest of self-improvement.” This book is simple but very smart and can help transform your life.

Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones

James Clear

Description from Bookshop.org:
Transform your life with tiny changes in behaviour, starting now.
People think that when you want to change your life, you need to think big. But world-renowned habits expert James Clear has discovered another way. He knows that real change comes from the compound effect of hundreds of small decisions: doing two push-ups a day, waking up five minutes early, or holding a single short phone call.

He calls them atomic habits.

In this ground-breaking book, Clears reveals exactly how these minuscule changes can grow into such life-altering outcomes. He uncovers a handful of simple life hacks (the forgotten art of Habit Stacking, the unexpected power of the Two Minute Rule, or the trick to entering the Goldilocks Zone), and delves into cutting-edge psychology and neuroscience to explain why they matter. Along the way, he tells inspiring stories of Olympic gold medalists, leading CEOs, and distinguished scientists who have used the science of tiny habits to stay productive, motivated, and happy.

Q. What's the most recent smart thinking book you've read (and how would you rate it)?

Find Your Passion: 25 Questions You Must Ask Yourself by Henri Junttila.
The most recent smart thinking book I've read is Find Your Passion: 25 Questions You Must Ask Yourself by Henri Junttila. Not everyone is clear about their life’s calling and vision. This book helps a person figure out their life’s purpose or dharma. It helps one uncover what you are truly meant to do. How do you achieve that? It’s by answering the 25 questions in this book. I would give it a 4.5 rating.

Q. Do you have a favourite childhood book?

Nancy Drew Diaries 90th Anniversary Collection (Boxed Set) by Carolyn Keene.
I absolutely loved the Nancy Drew series as books.

Description from Bookshop.org:
f you are a dreamer, come in,
If you are a dreamer,
A wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er,
A magic bean buyer . . .

Come in . . . for where the sidewalk ends, Shel Silverstein's world begins. You'll meet a boy who turns into a TV set, and a girl who eats a whale. The Unicorn and the Bloath live there, and so does Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout who will not take the garbage out. It is a place where you wash your shadow and plant diamond gardens, a place where shoes fly, sisters are auctioned off, and crocodiles go to the dentist.

Shel Silverstein's masterful collection of poems and drawings is at once outrageously funny and profound.

Q. Do you prefer reading on paper, Kindle or listening to an audiobook?

It depends on the purpose behind the reading. If I am doing research, I prefer printed copies of the book, so I can make notes and highlight sections of the book with markers for future reference. If I am reading a book to review, I don’t mind Kindle. Kindle is also helpful during travels. My husband and I have different reading tastes, but there are some audiobooks, which we both like so we listen to them on our road trips. I rarely listen to audiobooks in the gym or when out for a walk because I prefer to focus on the workout, how it feels in the body, and ultimately prevent injuries. While practicing mindfulness is a great habit, I feel I miss out on the nuances in the audiobook because I can’t focus on it, hence no audiobooks during workouts.

Q. Do you have a favourite bookshop (and why that shop)?

There are so many bookshops that I loved, which have closed over the years. One of my absolute favorite bookshops (I can’t recollect the name as it was decades ago) used to be in the Himalayas in Mussoorie, India. My friends and I from the boarding school would save up and every month splurge on books, posters, and stationery. My boarding school is a big reason I became a writer and the habit of investing in books and spending time in their company is something my dad and my school inculcated in me.
