Q. Do you have a favourite smart thinking book (and why that book)?
On Our Best Behaviour: The Price Women Pay to Be Good by Elise Loehnen. Description from Bookshop.org: (All links earn commission from purchases. Prices accurate at time of writing)
This question is so hard to answer, honestly! I read voraciously and each one feels uniquely special to me. Having said that, this book was so significant to me in many ways. It's On Our Best Behavior by Elise Loehnen. As an executive coach to female leaders, this book resonated so deeply about the ways in which women hold themselves and each other back. And, the way Elise weaves research with an anthropological and historical lens really makes it a unique read and one that needs time to be ingested and processed. It blew my mind!
On Our Best Behaviour: The Price Women Pay to Be Good
In this groundbreaking exploration of the ancient rules that women unwittingly follow in order to be considered 'good', journalist and podcast host Elise Loehnen explains that these impulses - for instance, to show restraint, to be selfless or to prove ourselves in a male-dominated workplace - are ingrained in us by a patriarchal culture that reaps the benefits.
So, what would happen if we stopped trying to be 'good'? Provocative and bold, On Our Best Behaviour reveals an enlightening path towards a more balanced, fulfilled way to live.

The Greatness Mindset by Lewis Howes and it's a great read that reminds you of the fundamentals to building success. I also like the examples he shares of his own journey and that of his clients.
I also love Atomic Habits by James Clear. Even though his book has been around for a while, I listened to it on Audible about 6 months ago and really loved the very tangible and actionable tips in the book that helps you think intentionally about habits and actually doing it so that it sticks;.

Q. Do you have a favourite childhood book?
Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein. Description from Bookshop.org: (All links earn commission from purchases. Prices accurate at time of writing)
Where the sidewalk ends by Shel Silverstein.
Where the Sidewalk Ends
f you are a dreamer, come in,
If you are a dreamer,
A wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er,
A magic bean buyer . . .
Come in . . . for where the sidewalk ends, Shel Silverstein's world begins. You'll meet a boy who turns into a TV set, and a girl who eats a whale. The Unicorn and the Bloath live there, and so does Sarah Cynthia Sylvia Stout who will not take the garbage out. It is a place where you wash your shadow and plant diamond gardens, a place where shoes fly, sisters are auctioned off, and crocodiles go to the dentist.
Shel Silverstein's masterful collection of poems and drawings is at once outrageously funny and profound.

Q. Do you prefer reading on paper, Kindle or listening to an audiobook?
I'm a traditionalist in the sense that I love the feel of a book in my hands and the act of turning the page and underlining and highlighting passages that touch me. Contrary to what we've been told as young kids, I firmly believe in writing in the margins of the pages that resonate with you. It helps me remember the points and ideate on thoughts that come to me about what the book is igniting in me.
However, with time being limited these days, I'm a fan of audiobooks and listen whenever I drive or walk.
Q. Do you have a favourite bookshop (and why that shop)?
Vroman's Bookstore
I do. As a longtime resident of Los Angeles, I'm obsessed with Vroman's bookstore. They not only showcase local authors and have just about any book you'd like; they also sell beautiful notebooks which I collect and adore. It's a great neighborhood bookshop that feels worldly at the same time.
Many thanks to Sohee for recommending a super set of books! Please don't forget to check out The Inner Game: Secrets of High-Achieving Women for Navigating Work, Life, and Mindset.
