Q. Do you have a favourite smart thinking book (and why that book)?
The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment by Eckhart Tolle. Description from Bookshop.org: (All links earn commission from purchases. Prices accurate at time of writing)
Besides the experience of life itself and The Bible, there are many books that have shaped my thinking over the years, but one that truly resonated with me is The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. This book had a profound impact on the way I approach life and business. Trying to keep up with the fast-paced world of hospitality and business, it is easy to get caught up in stress, future planning or past regrets. The Power of Now reminds me of the importance of presence, the ability to fully engage with the moment, whether in personal life, in customer interactions or self-reflection. It’s a book that teaches mindfulness in a very practical way, something I find invaluable both in my personal development work and in helping others unlock their potential, which I talk about in my newly released book Dare to C.A.R.E: Unlock your potential to transform your life, well-being and customer experience.
The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment
To make the journey into The Power of Now we will need to leave our analytical mind and its false created self, the ego, behind. Although the journey is challenging, Eckhart Tolle offers simple language and a question and answer format to show us how to silence our thoughts and create a liberated life.
Surrender to the present moment, where problems do not exist. It is here we find our joy, are able to embrace our true selves and discover that we are already complete and perfect. If we are able to be fully present and take each step in the Now we will be opening ourselves to the transforming experience of The Power of Now.

Q. What's the most recent smart thinking book you've read (and how would you rate it)?
Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear. Description from Bookshop.org: (All links earn commission from purchases. Prices accurate at time of writing)
The most recent smart thinking book I read was Atomic Habits by James Clear and I would rate it a 10/10 for its practicality and real-world application. The author breaks down the psychology of habit formation in such a simple yet powerful way and one of my biggest takeaways was how small, consistent changes, what he calls 'atomic habits', can produce transformational results over time. This aligns deeply with my own life philosophy, also highlighted in Dare to C.A.R.E., where I emphasize the power of daily actions in shaping both customer experience and personal growth. It is a must-read for anyone who is looking to make meaningful and lasting changes in their life.
Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones
Transform your life with tiny changes in behaviour, starting now.
People think that when you want to change your life, you need to think big. But world-renowned habits expert James Clear has discovered another way. He knows that real change comes from the compound effect of hundreds of small decisions: doing two push-ups a day, waking up five minutes early, or holding a single short phone call.
He calls them atomic habits.
In this ground-breaking book, Clears reveals exactly how these minuscule changes can grow into such life-altering outcomes. He uncovers a handful of simple life hacks (the forgotten art of Habit Stacking, the unexpected power of the Two Minute Rule, or the trick to entering the Goldilocks Zone), and delves into cutting-edge psychology and neuroscience to explain why they matter. Along the way, he tells inspiring stories of Olympic gold medalists, leading CEOs, and distinguished scientists who have used the science of tiny habits to stay productive, motivated, and happy.
These small changes will have a revolutionary effect on your career, your relationships, and your life.

Q. Do you have a favourite childhood book?
Greuceanu by Petre Ispirescu. Description from : (All links earn commission from purchases. Prices accurate at time of writing)
Absolutely! As a child, I adored Greuceanu by Petre Ispirescu. Greuceanu is a hero of Romanian folklore and the author envisioned him as a brave young man who finds that the Sun and the Moon have been stolen by kites. After a long fight with the three kites and their wives, Greuceanu sets the Sun and the Moon free and the people on Earth can have light again. Even as an adult, I find myself returning to its pages, discovering new layers of wisdom each time. The book beautifully captures the essence of human connection, courage and persistence, and the importance of seeing beyond the surface of things. In many ways, its message about our life path, relationships and understanding others aligns with the principles I advocate in my own work: empathy, authenticity and meaningful connections.
Greuceanu
Greuceanu is the fifth title in the Pasarea Maiastra collection – a collection dedicated to Romanian stories illustrated by Romanian artists. You will discover the story of a local superhero.
His mission: to recover the Sun and Moon stolen by dragons and bring light back to the kingdom of the Red Emperor. His secret powers: an enchanted palos and the ability to transform into winged creatures. His second: Faurul-pamantului, with whom he is a crossbred brother.

Q. Do you prefer reading on paper, Kindle or listening to an audiobook?
I believe that there is something magical about holding a physical book; the texture of the pages, the scent of paper and the way a popular book gathers memories over time. So, if I had to choose, I prefer reading on paper. However, I also appreciate the convenience of Kindle, particularly when traveling, especially the audiobooks; they are a fantastic way to absorb knowledge on the go. I think each format has its own charm and I switch between them depending on where I am and how I’m feeling
Q. Do you have a favourite bookshop (and why that shop)?
Hatchards
One of my favourite bookshops is Hatchards in London. As the oldest bookshop in the UK, it has a charm that’s impossible to replicate. Every time I go there, I lose track of time, I feel like I’m escaping into another world surrounded by history, wisdom and literature. The staff are amazing! Incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, a simple visit there becomes a relaxing experience, one that reminds me why reading is such a powerful personal journey.
Many thanks to Carmen for recommending a great set of books! Please don't forget to check out Dare to C.A.R.E: Unlock your potential to transform your life, well-being and customer experience.
